Alpine Mountaineering

Careful attention to detail.

With axes tucked in and adze's in tight, we ready ourselves to throw our bodies into arrest position again and again. In the direction you would move, your opposite leg is forcefully thrown over where you would then plant your shoulder and head to the upward slope. As this occurs, you kick your feet into the snow with knees firmly planted in front. This way, there were 5 points of contact (both feet, both knees, and your shoulder). Your torso would remain off the snow as it offered much more surface area for reduced tension against a fall.
